As we approach Patriot Day on September 11, we take time to reflect on the lives lost, the courage shown, and the lasting impact of that day. To support teaching and learning around this important moment in history, the library has created a Patriot Day Research Guide featuring a collection of primary sources. The guide highlights materials that capture the historical context, the events of September 11th, and the aftermath—giving students direct access to newspapers, books, photographs, and eyewitness accounts.

In addition to research resources, we invite you to visit our Library Feature Film page. Two timely titles are currently highlighted:

  • 9/11: I Was There – A unique and moving account of the day that changed the modern world. Featuring rare footage and audio, it unveils an intimate portrayal of the events of September 11 captured by ordinary people who chose to pick up their video cameras that day.

  • A Patriot’s Day – Based on true stories, this film follows the lives of three American soldiers. Set during the Iraq War, it sheds light on the mental health issues many U.S. military men and women face daily.

Both resources provide opportunities to foster discussion and connect the past with ongoing conversations about community, security, and remembrance.

Explore the Patriot Day Research Guide and the Library Feature Film page to incorporate these materials into your classes or for your own reflection this Patriot Day.

The library is excited to kick off the new academic year with a helpful resource for you and your students—our new Virtual Library Orientation video.

This short video introduces students to essential library services, including research tools, course reserves, study spaces, and how to get help when they need it. It’s a quick and convenient way to familiarize new and returning students with what the library offers—without requiring a class visit.

You can share the video in your course shell, show it during class, or post it in announcements so students can watch at their own pace.

As you prepare for the upcoming semester, don’t forget to review and update your course reserves! The library offers a reserve shelf where you can place copies of required textbooks and course materials for students to borrow. These items are available for two-hour checkout periods, helping ensure equitable access to essential resources.

You retain ownership of any materials you place on reserve, and we’ll return them to you once they’re no longer needed—such as when a new edition is adopted or a course changes.

Not sure if you already have items on reserve? Stop by the library or send us an email—we’re happy to check for you. Students can view available reserve materials by searching the library catalog by course or instructor name.

Remember, reserves aren’t limited to textbooks. You can also place supplementary materials like models, DVDs, or even posters on reserve.

Have questions or ready to update your reserves? We’re here to help.
