Library Research: The Basics: Cite Sources

When developing a research paper, it is important to give credit to the information and the work that you use. We call this citing a text, citing an author, or using citations. They come in two forms:

-In-text citation: used when paraphrasing in the text of your paper

-Works Cited or Reference Page: used at the end of the paper to list sources.

There are specific guidelines (or styles) depending on which one your instructor is asking you to use. These are typically APA (American Psychology Association) or MLA (Modern Language Arts).

Why Cite?

Watch the tutorials below for more information on how to cite in MLA and APA format.
