Source Evaluation: Why Evaluate?

Why evaluate your sources?

There are many reasons to evaluate sources, but the one that concerns students the most is that they are being asked to find credible, reliable, and sometimes scholarly information.

We evaluate sources to confirm:

  • that the information being presented is true
  • that the author is unbiased in their approach
  • that the information is the most current
  • that the information is valid and backed by other sources
  • that you, the researcher, have the best pieces of information to present in your paper
