One Book, One Community
Call Me American: A Memoir by Abdi Nor Iftin
Mapping Your Identity
If you missed out last year, here's your chance to read Abdi Nor Iftin's story about living as a refugee in
war-torn Somalia and his extraordinary journey to come to America to live in peace and eventually become an American citizen. With the release of the Young Adult version of Call Me American, families and students have an opportunity to get involved. Like Abdi, this year's theme, Mapping Your Identity, will hopefully give readers the opportunity to reflect on how place has shaped one's identity or how identity has impacted one's sense of place. Connect with your Onslow County community by reading Call Me American and participating in the many events and activities planned throughout the year!

What is OBOC?
What if one community read the same book? Coastal Carolina Community College and Onslow County Public Library are working together to find out the answer to this question. We call it One Book, One Community or otherwise known as OBOC. OBOC is an opportunity to come together to build a sense of community and promote literacy through the promotion of the reading and discussion of one book. The program aims to promote conversations and activities centered around the themes of the book in hopes of better understanding ourselves and others.
