Get Research Help from a Librarian

You can get research assistance from Coastal librarians in the following ways:

Resources

  • Chargers may be checked out at the circulation desk. There is an eight unit charging locker located temporarily in the Student Center during renovations.
  • Laptops are available for checkout for use in the library ONLY. Go to the circulation desk for assistance.
  • Dry Erase Markers may be checked out at the circulation desk for whiteboards in individual and group study rooms. 
  • DVDs are located in the far corner of the library near the men's room.
  • eBooks are available from NC LIVE, Hoopla, and Libby. See a librarian for assistance.
  • General Collection is located in the main library area. 
  • Graphic Novels and Young Adult are located in the Reading Room behind the circulation desk.
  • Headphones are available for use in the library and must be checked out at the circulation desk. In consideration of others, we ask that patrons be considerate of volume levels. 
  • Newspapers are located on the magazine shelf.
  • Popular Fiction is organized by author's last name and located on the elevator side of the library .
  • Popular Magazines are located on the magazine rack near the windows.
  • Portable Power Packs are available for use in the library and can be checked out at the circulation desk. These power packs have an AC Power Outlet, USB plugs, and a wireless cellphone charging pad. 
  • Quick Pick Reads are located near the Information Literacy Classroom.
  • Reference Materials are located near the Information Literacy Classroom.
  • Textbook Reserves are located at the circulation desk and may be used in the library for two hour intervals.

Renew My Materials

1. Access your account from the library's home page under My Library Account.  From here, look for "My Account" and login using your 14-digit library barcode and the four digit pin you created when you obtained your library barcode. Select the link for "Checkouts.".

2. You may also renew items by coming to the library circulation desk.

REMINDERS: 

  • Books and audiobooks check out for three weeks and may be renewed two times.
  • DVDs check out for 7 days. We charge $1.00 a day late fees for DVDs only. DVDs are not renewable.

Services

  • Accessible Individual Study Room is available for students in need of wheelchair access.
  • Computers and printers are available for enrolled Coastal students. Students can log on using their Coastal username and password.
  • (UPDATE 09/23/2024/) Two group study rooms are available for currently enrolled Coastal students, faculty, and staff with groups of two or more. Students may reserve rooms with a library staff member at the circulation desk for a maximum 2hrs per week usage. Students in the same group may not make advanced reservations in the same or other group rooms for that day. Group study rooms can be reserved up to a week in advance.  Faculty and staff can reserve the group study rooms if they work with students. 
  • Information Literacy Instruction can be done by the librarians in the Information Literacy Classroom. Faculty can schedule a session by completing the Faculty Request Form on the library website.
  • IT Lab Monitors are available to assist students with technology needs.
  • Photocopiers are located on the 2nd floor at a cost of ten cents per page.
  • Printers are available and students may print up to 15 pages FREE per day. Each additional page is 10 cents.
  • Research Assistance is available with a librarian by scheduling a research coach appointment on the library website.
  • Scanning is available at no charge.
