Al-Qaeda

Shifting gears, we delve into the emergence and evolution of Al-Qaeda—a pivotal entity that shaped the trajectory of global events for decades to come. Rooted in strong ideological currents, Al-Qaeda's genesis can be traced to the confluence of historical, political, and cultural factors. Al-Qaeda

Established by Osama Bin Laden in the late 1980s, Al-Qaeda originally functioned as a force to fight against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (Combs & Slann, 2007).By 1998, Bin Laden grew Al-Qaeda into a well funded and powerful terrorist organization, with the aim to fight against those who had declared "war against God and his messenger"—by demanding every Muslim to kill Americans as a part of their duty (Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, 2004).
