ENG 111: Dr Thomas: VIEWPOINTS

This guide is used for Dr. Thomas's ENG111 paper: Social Problems

How will I use these sources?

  • One important part of this project is to summarize and analyze multiple "sides" of your chosen social problem.
  • Use any combination of the below databases to collect 3 "viewpoint" articles
    • "Viewpoint Articles" can be called many names, including editorial, opinion, op-ed, position, or viewpoint. Keep your eye out for these terms when you are searching the databases.

Which section do I use these in?

  • The viewpoint article that you agree with most will be used in your CONCLUSION SECTION.
    • While the conclusion should feature the viewpoint article you agree with most, the best conclusions will SYNTHESIZE multiple sources to illustrate your position on the issue.
  • The other two viewpoint articles will be featured in your VIEWPOINT A and VIEWPOINT B sections.
    • This is not a "pro-con" paper. You don't have to completely agree or disagree with your Viewpoint A and Viewpoint B articles.
