Step 7: due 4/23 or 4/24

  • Find a book review in NC LIVE.
    Use the search box on this page OR use the appropriate Book Review filter in NC LIVE.
  • Try to locate the book from the library, interlibrary loan, or another school. 
    Ask a librarian for help in getting the book
  • Write a 2 page summary and analysis that includes: 
    • citation of the book
    • citation of the review
    • author, what did you learn, who is the audience, how can this be helpful to a student writing a research paper, what are the benefits and limits of this source, how did this add to your learned experience so far, how does this compare to the other sources so far?
    • Would it be a good idea to start with this source?
    • How are book reviews useful to students performing research?

What is a book review? 

  • book reviews are short
  • they are reviewed by people in the field or in the publishing world
  • the reviews usually give a summary of the entire book and also the writer's opinion of the book

What is a Scholarly book? How can I tell?

  • An author with appropriate credentials
  • Publisher: universities typically publish scholarly works 
  • Check Sources: at the back of the book there will be a list of works and texts that are referenced. This comes BEFORE the index.
